Cat Jahnke plays pretty pop music

E-mail Print PDF

Cat Jahnke played laid back folk pop originals on piano. Photo by Richard AmeryAnother pretty girl singing beautiful melodies, Dec. 2 was Winnipeg’s Cat Jahnke, who played a solo show at the Slice with just her on guitar and piano.

I arrived in time to see her begin her second set with a  pretty piano version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” and followed that up by playing a couple pop tinged originals on piano before switching to guitar.

She had her “Lethbridge posse,” dominating the front tables of the Slice, who cheered her on throughout her set.

She switched back to piano for “Apple,” which is one of the songs she composed for NBC’s web series “CTRL,” then played a Rufus Wainwright song  from Moulin Rouge.

She sang many beautiful, laid back melodies, before picking up the tempo for the last couple songs of her set and ended with crowd favourite “Crocodiles,” which had more of a jazz flavour.
