A lot of people ended up turning out for a punk/ metal show at the Slice, Aug. 19 featuring High River metal band The Fallen, local metal/ screamo band Berserker and Fort Macleod pop punk band Sophomore Jakes.
I caught the end of the Fallen’s set, who ended a tight and well played set with a cover of the Misfits’ “ Dig Up her Bones.”
Berserker was on fire, though. They’ve nailed the Alexisonfire meets Rage Against the Machine/ Audioslave sound, combining raw energy with punk power and energy.
They plowed through a quick set of tight originals, which sounded great as they haven’t had much time to practice together.
Frontman Jon Vorbrock leaped about the stage like a possessed man, howling about one night slams and outlaws.
If you got addicted to pop punk from 15 years back, Sophmore Jakes filled that perscription combining the adenoidal vocals of the Dickies and the sugary fun of the likes of Sum- 41 and Blink 182.
They played a tight, up-tempo set, full of catchy guitar and sugary energy.
