“I’ve always done a Nate Dogg tribute in my set. That’s my dog, that’s my friend. We grew up together,” said Warren Griffin III, aka Warren G on a train on the way to Vancouver to begin an extensive cross-Canadian tour including Vancouver, Victoria, Whistler, Saskatoon, Calgary and Winnipeg as well as Lethbridge.

“We did a lot of stuff together. We made a lot of music together,” he continued.

The four time Grammy nominee Nathan Hale, aka Nate Dogg passed away from a stroke in March at the age of 41 after years of deteriorating health.

He had two massive strokes in 2007 which left him partially paralyzed and 2008
“ He was one of the greatest ever guys in hip hop,” Warren G continued adding the shows are a great way to keep Nate Dogg’s music alive.

“We’ll be playing his music. I’m just doing this to have some fun. It’s all about fun,” he said.

People have really embraced the tour and Warren G’s music. Warren G, the step-brother of Dr. Dre, broke out of the Los Angels rap scene in 1994 with his massive, Grammy Award winning hits  “Regulate,” and had several others including “This DJ .”

“They sing every word. It feels good to have people so far away from home to singing every word. It is a really nice feeling,” he continued. His misses Nate Dogg as a musical partner as much as he does as a friend.

“I’ll be in the studio, and it’ll be like Nate’s not there. Because in the studio, Nate could put a hook into anything and let me tell my stories. And now I don’t know what I’d do without him there,” he said.

He has just released a new song about Nate Dogg’s life called “This Is Dedicated to you,” featuring longtime collaborator and friend Latoya Williams.

“It’s just a song about who Nate was and what he was going through. And Latoya did a great job on it. She’s got an amazing voice. Out of all the people I know I don’t know anybody else who could have nailed the song as well as she did,” he said just as his phone cut out.

Tickets for the Sept. 13 show cost $20. It is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.
