Rockin’ the Nation III show their passion for music and fashion

E-mail Print PDF

Numerous Lethbridge musicians and fashion designers got into the Halloween spirit early at the Lethbridge College Barn, Oct. 21 with Rock N’ Shcoked Standards rocked the nation wih old school metal and originals. Photo by Richard Amerythe Nation III. A good sized audience  was on hand to listen to local talent like Jolene Draper, Lance Tail Feathers, Shocked Standards and Curt Young.

I arrived at the end of Simone Smith’s set of upbeat pop music including an a capella version of Four Non Blondes’DBA rap the nation. Photo by Richard Amery What’s Going On.

There was an extended break before the fashion show  began including numerous outfits designed by local designers including Simone Smith. There were a variety of gowns and even a wedding dress.

Young metal band Shocked Standards took the stage   and played a variety of classic metal from the likes of Metallica, Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne as well as Joan Jett and even an extended version of the Power Rangers theme.

These teens, not more than 14 or 15 did an exceptional job of clovers and a couple of their originals and an almost note perfect version of “Crazy Train. Unfortunately the sound quality was wretched for most of the acts I heard, bass heavy and muddy. I would have loved to hear them with a  decent sound mix. ButSeveral local fashion designers participated on Rock the nation. Photo by Richard Amery Lethbridge’s music scene is in good  hands, if this band is in any indication.

I’m not much for rap music but had to hear a couple numbers from the Southern Alberta hip hop collective DBA (Dope Boy Association) who did a decent job of typical rap and hip hop, music  shouting at the crowd to “make some noise,”  though I couldn’t make out much of the words other than the odd F-bomb.
