Beat has given away two tickets for to Ridley Bent’s Oct. 2 show at Henotic with up and coming country singer Ridley Bent.  Robin Hepher  is the lucky winner for being the first to correctly answer that Ridley Bent was born in Halifax. He has roots all over western Canada and once had a dream of being a professional skier when he was living in Whistler.

The title track of Bent’s new CD “Buckles and Boots” is getting regular air play on modern country radio. He will be touring with Corb Lund in the fall. He combines elements of rap into his original brand of country and folk music. So don’t miss seeing him in a small venue.

At the Slice on the same night, Kent McAllister and the Iron Choir will be playing with Rob Ursel and the Burning Sensations.
The Deep Dark Woods return to Lethbridge with Little Miss Higgins , Oct. 4 at the Geomatic Attic. And don’t forget to watch out for zombies that same night as it is the third annual zombie walk, which kicks off at  5:30 in Galt Gardens and ends up with  a show at the Slice with the Phantom Creeps, The Grave Mistakes and the Brains.
Elliott Brood also returns to Lethbridge, Oct. 5 to play Henotic with the Wooden Sky.

Other cool events this week include Meester Lethbridge’s birthday party at Henotic, Oct. 3. Several bands including Pilot Speed, Jason Bajada, Jesse Northey and the Dandelions plus the new Weather Machine will be raising money for the Chinook  Regional Hospital pediatric unit. Admission is $15, the show starts at 9 p.m.
Tonight there are open mics at the 1010 Pub and the Slice. Plus check out Jenn Pellerin’s new band, Broken Host who play Henotic with the Emily Fennell band.
Henotic also has an open mic on Wednesday (Sept. 30) with host  Kelsey Jesperson.
And I have to plug a cool show at the Vent in Coaldale. Canadian punk veterans the Dayglo Abortions are playing there, Oct. 2 for anybody who wants to explore punk’s roots. The show starts at 9 p.m. Admission is $20.
