E-mail Print PDF

The old saying goes March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. From a live music perspective in Lethbridge, it is lion all the way.
Thunder Bay country/ rock band Poor Young Things are leading a charmed life lately. They have two Lethbridge gigs this week, supporting their new EP “Let It Sleep.”
They not only open for former Watchmen/ Thornley bassist Ken Tizzard, Feb. 29, at the Slice, but also open for the Trews, March 6 at Average Joe's.
There is also a wicked blues Shred Kelly returns to Lethbridge this week. Photo by Richard Ameryshow happening at the Geomatic Attic to bring in March, on March 5.
David Gogo, who recently opened for Johnny Winter at the Empress Theatre, will be playing a solo acoustic show with Suzie Vinnick.
It has been a great year for the Canadian bluesman.
Gogo has received a Juno nomination for his latest CD “Soul Bender,” and has just been nominated for a Canadian Independent Music award for bluesman of the year.
Tickets are $30 for the show which begins at 8 p.m.

One of the big shows this week have already sold out.
The Ammena Dance Company’s annual “Explosion of Dance,” at the Yates Theatre has been sold out for March 3. However if you do want to dance, hillbilly style, Shred Kelly at the Slice may be your  tickets, March 3.

The Fernie fivesome will return to rock the joint with their energetic upbeat rock meets bluegrass and folk music. Along the same lines, the Lethbridge Folk Club has their bluegrass jam, March 2.
Raleigh is also back at the Slice with Samantha Savage Smith, March 2.

Another interesting show at the Slice will be Kytami, who is best known for playing fiddle with Delhi 2 Dublin. She plays March 5. There is a five dollar cover.
The big show of March is March 6 with the Trews, who will be tearing apart Average Joes with the Poor Young Things. Tickets cost $25 for the show, which begins at 9 p.m.

If you like choral music, the Southern Accord Chorus along with the Immanuel Christian High School Choir Chorus and Global Drums will be performing the seventh annual Moja kwa Moja,(One By One) concert for the children of Africa, a fundraiser for Compasison Canada which is raising money for the children of Africa, March 3 at the Trinity United Reformed Church (110-40th Ave North). There is no cover, though a freewill donation will be taken at the show, which begins at 7:30 p.m., March 3.

Last, but not least The Lethbridge Symphony features Lethbridge classical guitarist Dale Ketcheson playing the fourth  Chamber series presentation of the year, March 2.
Tonight, Toques and Beards  host the jam at the Slice, Feb. 28. There is also an open mic at the Cave at Lethbridge College, March 1, which will be hosted by Devin Gergel. It begins at 7 p.m.
