Local singer songwriter Jenn Pellerin  is trying to turn tragedy into something positive by recording her debut CD.Jenn Pellerin
“Backwards Distortion” was inspired directly by the deaths of two of her close friends,  Devin Cockerill and Meghan Kay.
She recorded the seven song CD with local musician/producer Randy Shaver.
“I wanted to  have it ready for a fundraiser in Brooks called Devinfest,” Pellerin said adding Devin was  a musician who played several instruments including guitar and drums before he died of brain cancer.
“ He wrote a lot of songs and poetry before he passed away,” Pellerin remembered.
“And I was in a car accident with Meghan. So all of my songs are about them. ‘Lost in Purple’ was the first song I ever wrote. It was about Devin. All of my songs are very personal and inspired by real experiences,” said Pellerin who can often be seen performing at  the 1010 Pub and Henotic.
The CD took two weeks to record. Pellerin said there may be some changes made to the cover art and Shaver may add a few extra sounds to it.
“It’s been fun working with Randy.”
She is excited about working with her brand new band “Broken Host” which includes bassist Alex (Whole) Shenton and drummer Tyler Buhr.
“It’s had some good response, so that is already good.”
