As always Edmonton blues/ R and B band the Boogie Patrol killed it at their March 24 show at the Slice.
I arrived at the end of their first set in the middle of “Bathe With Your Woman,” one of the best songs from their latest CD “I Try and I Try and I Don’t Know What To Do, the Plan Was Set Some Time Ago and We Must Follow Through…” They didn’t have a big crowd considering the insane amount of entertainment happening around the city, but as always, deserved a lot more.
Their musicianship was impeccable and their beat unstoppable which had most of the enthusiastic audience working up a sweat on the dance floor.
Their second set evolved into a massive jam session. Everybody got to solo and the crowd kept dancing. There was plenty of pulsating organ playing from Sean Grieve, frontman Rotten Dan played impressive harp and howled lyrics from the depths of his very soul and Yuji Ihara played tasteful guitar solos. Bassist Nigel Gale got a little funky in his solo spots and the drummer held everything together.
They got the crowd to “Celebrate” and wound down the show with an extended, disco/ gospel tinged jam on the Beatles’ “Come Together.”
