Potemkin Collective gets ready for the end of the world

E-mail Print

Lethbridge art collective, the Potemkin Collective is preparing for the end of the world.
Well not literally, but the end of the world is the theme of their next open exhibit.Click here for more info on the end of the world.
“All Potemkin Collective exhibits are unjuried and open to anybody who wants to participate,” said Potemkin Collective  member Darcy Logan.

The deadline for submissions for the exhibit, called “the End Is Near” is May 2. That is when people should let the collective know they are participating, though they have a few extra weeks to get their pieces ready.

“So far we have 43 confirmed participants,” said Logan, preparing to open the Paint Chips exhibit at the Bowman Arts Centre. The number has increased closer to  the deadline.
The exhibit will be  part of a gallery hop, July 28 during the Alberta Summer Games at  the Dr. Penny Foster Building downtown (324-5 St. South).

“It is a  concept that resonates with people  now,” Logan said, adding there is more  interest than ever before  with the preponderance of disaster movies, apocalyptic  themed  literature and, movies and TV shows as well as the Mayan Calendar predicting 2012  to be the end of the world.

Work in all media and medium is welcome for traditional to experimental. Artists are encouraged to explore the Mayan calendar,  Y2K, nuclear holocaust, zombie apocalypse, the rapture, ecological armageddon, maybe ever the Prism song “Armageddon.” There are many ways to explore the theme.
Artists interested in participating are asked to e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
