Lethbridge alt-rock quartet Planet Telex is back with their long awaited new CD, “Wednesday,” called that because the band, Tyson Wiebe, Quint Viskup, Eric Admundson and Michael Hayward recorded the four songs on a series of Wednesdays in between numerous other projects.
“Riot” has a similar post grunge, ’90s style rock sound to their previous work.
“Helicopter” is a catchy, upbeat punk popish Weezer-style number which has a very cool bass line. Tyson Wiebe has a distinctive voice throughout.
“Hold Steady,” is my favourite song of the EP. It is an almost alt countryish number, but punk/pop tinged with its “nan na na na naaaa” bridge. It is reminiscent of the band the Hold Steady mixed with Leeroy Stagger. It even has a pretty cool guitar solo.
“Wednesday ” begins with another punkish song, “Great Dane.” It also includes an outstanding guitar solo.
If you like Planet Telex before, you will like them even more on “Wednesday” as they have branched out a little more to provide a pretty addictive slice of pop/ rock music.
