The students are back at the university and college, so that means entertainment takes off this week.
Both the University and Lethbridge College have massive Frosh week activities.Leeroy Stagger plays a hometown gig, Sept. 8. Photo by Richard Amery

Things kick off at Lethbridge College, Sept. 4 where several Lethbridge bands will be playing beginning with  Medicine Hat folk/ pop duo Mahoney, who play in the Barn at 3 p.m. They play folkified covers of everything from Michael Jackson to Queen and everything in between.

Following them will be local psychedelic rock band Cosmic Charley, followed by modern rock/ metal band Caste of Shadows. There will be comedy after that from Mark Robert McCue and hypnotist Scott Ward at 8 p.m. If you want to dance, there will be a Rave in the Cave with DJ Fuze, DJ Pez and Villify who all perform, Sept. 5.

The University of Lethbridge has a lot going on too for Frosh week. The week culminates, Sept. 8 with a variety of performers including Michael Rault, Lethbridge musicians Brenna Lowrie plus Politics of Joy.

Also on the bill are Vancouver pop/ rock musician Hanna Georges, Edmonton born, ’60s style pop musician Michael Rault. Vancouver, Edmonton pop band Yes Nice, who played a wicked show at the Slice a few weeks ago are back for Fresh Fest as well. And if you want to move, Shout Out Out Out  are just what you need with their duo drum/multiple bass/ keyboard powered show. Mitchmatic and the Joe are also performing. Tickets are $20.

If you aren’t on campus, there is a lot to do downtown as well. Lethbridge folk/ country/ roots musician Leeroy Stagger plays a hometown show at the Slice, Sept. 8 with Dennis Ellsworth. Tickets are $15. Also Sept. 8, in the roots vein, Winnipeg’s Greg MacPherson plays the Owl Acoustic Lounge with Redrum Triumph. Redrum Triumph also play happy Hour at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m.  If you want to rock, local rock/ metal band Unzipped play the Front Row Pub, Sept. 8 as well.

There are even a couple excellent jazz gigs. Lethbridge experimental jazz group ODEION, who include the roots of Lethbridge jazz band the Naked Ear, will be playing a more traditional set of jazz music at Ric’s Grill, Sept. 7, though they will be funking things up by the end of the set.
Tonight Togues and Beards host the open stage at the Slice beginning t 9:30 p.m.
