A good sized crowd got jazzed up for Jazzerwocky, Oct. 5 at the Mix Lounge at Ric’s Grill.
Jazz and rap aren’t the first musical combination to come to mind for most audiences, but Gordon Leigh and the Naked Ear and rapper Furious D performed it seamlessly.
The Naked Ear, including Gordon Leigh on French horn, synth and vocals bassist Dana Beauchemin, drummer Ken Koshman and pianist Raymond Ross and Furious D sounded like they had been playing together for years.
They each had their own sets. The Naked Ear played experimental jazz music with everybody locked in. And Furious D rapped his own compositions as the band effortlessly provided backing tracks. They sounded just about perfect together as the attentive crowd got into the groove.
