The Slice was, well, packed for Vancouver blues/ punk duo the Pack A.D. and special guests Smokestack Jacks, Oct. 4.
Having seen Smokestack Jacks many times before, they definitely didn’t put on as good a set as they are capable of, but was solid nonetheless. They played several new songs, a really cool, funk tinged instrumental, which had lead guitarist Dave Bullied wandering through the audience and several popular older tracks.
However, the Pack A.D brought it. They kicked off their latest tour in fine style, crashing into their energetic set like a two woman Motorhead or wrecking crew, depending on how you look at it.
They had plenty of energy, many high octane power chords and a rock solid backbeat from drummer Maya Miller, who thanked the audience by coming out then put her nose to the grindstone.
Guitarist/ lead vocalist Becky Black has never sounded better. In fact the entire band put on the best show I’ve seen them do here. They didn’t say much other than Maya Miller welcoming the crowd, preferring to let the music do the rocking.
They played a couple new songs, some songs from their latest CD “Unpersons,” plus a few older, crowd pleasers.
