There are lots of big shows this week worth checking out. While Peterborough band Taratüela have a name that makes them sounding like they should be playing death metal or something else dark and menacing, when they play the Slice, Nov. 1, expect a hot show of old school blues tinged R and B and rock and roll.
They day before that though, Vancouver’s Hey Ocean return to play Halloween at the Slice. They play upbeat indie-rock with a lot of keyboards and even a little flute.
On the other hand, the Owl Acoustic Lounge celebrates Halloween a day late, Nov. 1 with Winnipeg power pop/ rock band The Cannon Brothers and local rock band Open Channels.
B.C. based songwriter Tereza Tomek is at the Owl Acoustic Lounge the next day, Nov. 2. Calgary Brothers Rueben and Distance Bullock play the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Nov. 3.
There are also new open mics afoot this week.
In addition to old standbys at the Folk Club on the second and fourth Fridays of each month; Jimmy’s Pub and Brasserie every Friday; at the Owl Acoustic Lounge on Mondays and Wednesdays, at Bo Diddly’s on Tuesdays at the the Slice most Tuesdays ( though there won’t be one, Nov. 6 due to the second show from Danny Michel and his band,) there are a couple of others.
The Trianon Wine Gallery has a new open mic on Thursday nights at 8 p.m., hosted by Bruce Roome. Bo Diddly’s is also starting up a Saturday afternoon jam, from 4-8 p.m beginning Nov. 3.
There are a lot of things happening, Nov. 3.
