Movember, crafts and much more this week

The end of November means winter is on its way, which is enough to give anybody the blues.  However listening to the blues makes it all seem better, especially when it’s The Coal Creek Boys play a country themed Movember event at the Lethbridge College Barn, Nov. 30. Photo by Richard Ameryfor a good cause. That’s right, Movember ends Nov. 30 at Bo Diddly’s with a ’Stache Bash. You may have noticed a lot of men sporting all manner of moustaches this month. Well chances are they’re raising awareness and money for men’s health, particularly prostate cancer. So to ring out Movember and usher in December, with lots of great blues music from Edmonton’s the Boogie Patrol plus Papa King and Darry Düus. The music begins at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $20 in advance.


The Lethbridge College Students Association is celebrating Movember, Nov. 30, country style.
 The Coal Creek Boys, Alyssa McQuaid and Armond Duck Chief, three of southern Alberta’s favourite country acts will be performing at the Barn, Nov. 30.


Admission is only two dollars. There will also be door prizes, a silent auction and prizes for Movember participants.The engineering students will also be selling pulled pork.


If you didn’t get enough blues from the Boogie Patrol, Papa King and Darryl, Düus, you are in for a treat this week. Doc Maclean returns to play a solo show of intense acoustic Delta style blues music at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Dec. 1. The Toronto based, California raised MacLean, usually tours with Winnipeg’s Big Dave McLean, but will be performing on his own, Dec. 1. There is no cover for the show.


If you  have a passion for fashion, you will want to be at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery for the  eleventh annual Lethbridge Fashion weekend, this weekend, Dec. 1 and 2. nine designers will be showing their latest designs for the popular annual event, which begins at 7 p.m., Dec. 1. DJs  Midnight Cowboy and the Business will be spinning tunes and Jordan Davidson will be performing a set  during the intermission.


Tickets for the show cost $15 at Nicholai (330 7 Ave South) or at the door. All money raised goes to put on next year's events. Doors open at 7 p.m., the show begins at 8 p.m.
There is a sale of the wares on Dec. 2.


 And  if you want to  get a head start on Christmas and support local artisans, the Lethbridge Textiles Surface Design Guild and several other groups have their annual  Christmas crafts and art sale at the Bowman Arts Centre, Nov. 30 and Dec. 12. There will be pottery, weaving, paintings, drawings, stained glass, textile and paper arts plus woodcarving. It runs 10 a.m.-9 p.m. on Nov. 30 and  10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 1.
On the other hand, if you want to laugh, comedian Ron James returns to Lethbridge to play the Yates Theatre, Dec 2. Fresh off of filming the fourth season of his popular CBC television show, the Ron James show, James  shares his unique take on Canada and everyday life, Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $56.
Tonight, Rancho Deluxe hosts the open mic at the Slice beginning at approximately 9:30 p.m.
