Golden based southern rock band Willhorse is excited about their brand new self-titled CD.
They are currently in the middle of a 10 date in 12 day tour which brings them to The Slice, Dec. 20, where they will be playing a gig with the Coal Creek Boys.
“It will be a good couple of bands. They’re definitely more country than us, but they’ve got some some southern rock in them,” said bassist Todd Menzies en route to  show in Penticton.

“ They said they will open with a full show and we’ll play after them and then we might play a few together. That 11 people between the two bands,” he said.

“So we’re looking forward to it.”

He is not only excited about seeing his old friends like the Coal Creek Boys, but other Lethbridge friends like Matt Robinson, who they last saw when they were touring with 54-40.
“It will be great to see them again. You have a great music scene there,” he continued.

They were last in Lethbridge in July. since then, they recorded their self-titled debut album in a cabin north of Golden with a producer from the Vancouver/ Victoria area.
“ It took two weeks, but it was a pretty long two weeks of 16-18 hour days,” he said.
“Sometimes we wouldn’t get out of the studio until 6:30 in the morning,” he said.

“We did a lot of pre-production so we wouldn’t waste our time or money,” he continued.

“We’re pretty stoked about the album,” he continued adding they recorded it with the plan in mind to release it on vinyl, which they will be doing in the new year.

“It’s a full length album, five songs on each side,” she said adding they had one other song they put aside for further work.

“It’s a straight ahead rock album, There’s some country influenced songs, a lot of blues of course and a couple slower, acoustic based songs. It’s pretty diverse. But we’re a southern rock band,” he said.

Now the CD is paid for and they have new merchandise for sale, they are planning on a vinyl release.

“We all grew up listening to vinyl. We listen to a lot of the bands from the ’70s like early Stones and we still throw those albums on when we get home,” he continued.
“Vinyl is coming back, and now most of them come with a digital download, so you can listen to it on your computer or car and when you get home you can listen to it like it should be,” he continued.

The show begins at 9:30 p.m. with the Coal Creek Boys opening.
