E-mail Print PDF

A good sized crowd helped CKXU celebrate Christmas by enjoying live music, prizes, pictures with Santa and in the process raised $1,150 for the station as well as a couple charities plus food for the Lethbridge Food Bank.Santa Clause (Lisa Fjoryn) texts while waiting for visitors. photo by Richard Amery

The event raised $150 for the Lethbridge Herald’s Campaign to help Hungry Kids.

Local pop-punk trio the Grinches who Stole Whoville, who apparently just formed for this gig played several Blink-182 songs and tackled a Christmas Carol.

While I missed betterhalf and the Ruby Plumes, I caught Jesse Northey and the Dandelions taking the Christmas theme of the night to heart.

Their entire set was indie rock versions of popular Christmas carols including well worn chestnuts like Frosty the Snowman and “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas.”

Their bassist even attempted to sing the Chipmunks Christmas song, but couldn’t quite hit the notes. They ended with Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer,” during which lead guitarist/ vocalist Jesse Northey added a few bars of the Knacks “My Sharona.”
