While it seems every musician says Lethbridge is among their favourite places to play. Lethbridge has a special place in Toronto based folk/ pop singer Peter Peter Katz Plays the Empress, April 26 and The Slice, May 6. Photo by Richard Amery. Katz’s heart.
“It might sound like I’m pandering to you, but Lethbridge has always been great to me. Things were going well for me in Lethbridge  early on when they weren’t going well in other cities and it gave me a lot of hope, but it convinced me to keep going,” said Katz from the middle of the mountains, en route to a April 26 gig at the Empress in Fort Macleod.

He will be coming to Lethbridge, May 6 with special guests fellow Torontonian Emma-Lee and pianist/ keyboardist Karen Kosowski, who was last here playing with Sarah Slean.

Emma-Lee plays a set then joins him on stage a for a couple of songs including their new single  “What’s on Your Mind.”
“Response has been pretty good so far. It is getting played on CBC3 and people are requesting it before my shows, which is very cool to me,” he said.

Both will be backed by keyboardist  Karen Kosowski on keyboards
“She plugs her keyboards into a laptop,” he said.
“The tour is going well. A lot  of shows have been very special and there have been three or four we are really looking forward to,” he said.

He is just beginning the writing process for a new album.
“ I put out three albums in about two years because I had a lot of ideas I wanted to get out there,” he said adding that might not have been a good business decision and cost a lot of money which he is busily recouping through constant touring.

That included his 2012 Juno nominated live  CD/ DVD set “Live at the  Music Gallery” plus his most recent  studio CD “Still Mind Still” and “ First of the Last”, which was released in 2010
“I didn’t win (the Juno). But it was totally unexpected to be nominated. So it was just a treat to be part of it,” he continued.
But he is concentrating on writing the new music.

“I want to take a serious look at it.  I also want to a record a CD with Emma-Lee. I want to write 100 songs and really take my time with it,” he said.
While he was playing several new songs on an Ontario tour earlier this year.
The current tour will mostly be music from his albums, with Emma Lee and Karen Kosowski filling out the sound.

“The audiences have responded really well to it. This tour is mostly the album with the new musicians, to give the audience something different,” he said.
Peter Katz plays the Empress Theatre tonight,  April 26 at 7:30 p.m.. with special guests Thompson and Thompson. Tickets are $15 each.
Their Lethbridge show, May 6, is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. The cover charge is to be determined.
