May is going to be marvellous right from the first week, with a lot of great shows happening, especially if you like The Coal Creek Boys release their new double CD Rose Town ( The Whiskey and Wine Edition), May 3. Photo by Richard Amerycountry music.

It doesn’t get any more country than the Tennessee Three, who play Casino Lethbridge, May 2.

The trio features Bob Wootton who used to back Johnny Cash himself with the original Tennessee Three for 30 some years. He replaced  original guitarist Luther Perkins when he died in a house fire, Aug. 5, 1968.

They begin at 7 p.m. with opening act Six Mile Grove. There is no cover charge for the show.
The other big country show is May. 4 at the Slice when the Coal Creek Boys release their new double CD “Rose Town (The Whiskey and Wine Edition) which features an electric album and an acoustic album.  The show will also be the first one for the Coal Creek Boys new bassist Shawn Worden, who used to play bass for New Brunswick bluesman Ross Neilsen and the Suffering Bastards. Admission is $20 which includes a copy of the album.
Devon Coyote will be opening the show.

For something  different, the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra also has the fifth edition of this seasons chamber series, May 3 with cellist Sarabeth Baldry. The concert is at Southminster United Church, with doors opening at 7 p.m.

Other highlights include the return of  Moose Jaw Saskatchewan indie rock duo Pandacorn aka Brodie Mohninger and Megan Nash, who return to Lethbridge for two shows, May 2 at the Slice and May 4 at the Owl Acoustic Lounge. They will be performing with Jesse and the Dandelions and Peer Support.

A couple local shows worth checking out include James Oldenburg at Ric’s Grill on May 1, plus Gordon Leigh  playing some jazz music May 3, also at Ric’s Grill and a special two day gig at the Front Row Pub with Whose Yer Daddy, May 3 and May 4. Kevan Tolley is at the Mocha Cabana also playing jazz music on the weekend.

This week,  Juno nominated Toronto rock band the Sky Dogs will be playing the Gate with the Raw Dogs, May 5. Tickets are five dollars. The show begins at 8 p.m.

And, Edmonton indie rock/ folk group Short of Able play the Slice, May 3.
But everything is happening on Monday, May 6, with three superb shows. The Weber Brothers Band return to the Geomatic Attic beginning at 8 p.m., to play some rock and roll. While on the folk/ pop side of things, Peter Katz return to the Slice, May 6 as well to folk it up with Emma Lee and keyboardist Karen Kosowski.

On the other hand, Victoria based Hawk and Steel will be playing some rock, folk and countryish music at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, May 6 as well. They released their last album, “Danger Road” in November.
