CASA curator Darcy Logan is excited about Lethbridge’s new arts centre, particularly their first exhibit “Transitions and Transformations,” which officially opens Thursday, May 16.
“ It is a group exhibit. We asked artists to submit original and new works broadly touching on the theme of transformation and transition,” Logan described.
The 35 artists submitted a variety of different works including sculpture, paintings and silk screens saying “Don’t Touch”. Even a gigantic TV dinner carved out of wood and placed on a wall.
He is pleased with the new space, noting it is a vast improvement over the Bowman.
“The quality of the space is just a big improvement,” he observed.
Exhibitions will be chosen in the same way as exhibits at the Bowman were.
“I’m still going to focus on local artists and show a wide range, as broad as possible from fine crafted things to more experimental works,” he said.
New exhibits will be installed every six or seven weeks.
“Transitions and Transformations” runs from May 6 to the end of June.
The opening reception begins at 7 p.m., May 16.
