Matt Epp brings more energy with band

While I missed a solo set from Chantel Emond aka French Press, she sang beautiful vocal harmonies with Epp’s band.

He started with a guitar effect that sounded like a sitar and several tracks from his latest CD “Learning to Lose Control.” He told the audience he appreciated everyone coming out to the show and supporting the album, which he completed with the help of crowd funding site Kapipal  then played the catchy title track.

After thanking the full house, he played a popular old favourite “Miss Someone,” which got an extra shot of energy  thanks to his tight band.
He had an easygoing mid —90s folk/ pop feel throughout his set especially on numerous Dave Matthewsesque slower songs.

One of the highlights was“ When You Know” which he recorded as a duet with Serena Ryder on the CD. Instead, French Press sang Ryder’s part, giving it more of a jazz flair compared to Ryder’s twangy alt country feel. He sang a pretty song for his wife with just French Press on stage with him.
