Don’t let Old Man Winter keep you home

Don’t let Old Man Winter bring you down and keep you home. It’s supposed to warm up this week, so check out some live entertainment. Beginning tonight. Cold and snow is a good reason to play the blues, Paul Kype hosts the Slice’s blues jam tonight. There are several  exciting shows this week.  On Wednesday, Dec. 9, bilingual accordionist Marie-Joseé Houle plays the Slice  with Tanyss Nixi. Houle plays an eclectic mix of French cabaret,  jazz and folk with a touch of punk  on the accordion.
There is also a pretty cool show Thursday at the Slice. Edmonton singer songwriter  Scott Cook returns to the Slice, Dec. 10 with a backing band. Also on the bill are fellow Edmontonians Jesse Dee and Jacquie B who also have a band with them to help them play  their genre blending folk music.
There are a couple excellent shows  on Friday as well. The Skilletlikkers are at the Slice, Dec. 11 plus  the JPS Trio has rescheduled their video shoot for the same night at Henotic.  Dan Berdusco and Planet Telex will also be playing. Tyson Wiebe from Planet Telex will be hosting  the Hair of the Dog at Henotic, Sunday afternoon.
 If you want to dance, local R and B/ soul/disco band Hippodrome has a two day gig at  the Lethbridge Casino.
 On Saturday,  the Darby and Joan Club plus Calgary‘s  Bil Hetherington and the Asian Tigers will be at the Slice.
 A really cool show  happens next Wednesday (Dec. 16) at the Geomattic Attic. Highway 3 Roots Review is touring again this winter. Three talented southern Alberta songwriters, John Wort Hannam, Dave McCann and Leeroy Stagger will be touring.
 There are also several open mics this week. The Lethbridge Folk Club’s only December open mic is this Friday at  the Wolf’s Den.The 1010’s Tuesday open mic has now been moved to Mondays and Gabriel T Olsen is hosting Henotic’s open mic, Dec. 8.
