There is a very special show this week to help the students of  L’ Ecole Verendrye featuring local country music performers Trevor Panczac and the Junkman’s Choir. They are participating in a Fundraiser for Kids , Nov. 23 at  La Cité Des Prairies (2104 6 Avenue South). It was brought to the attention of two parents of two students at the school that the students could use a little extra help.

“The government made some cuts to thTrevor Panczak and the Junkman’s chor play a Fundraiser for Kids, Nov. 23. Photo by Richard Amerye schools. So there was no money for after school programs and things like trips and soccer balls. Some kids have no lunch other than a bag of chips or a chocolate bar and that’s just wrong,” said parent council member Keith Wilson, whose son Jase is in the Le Touché Tour (kindergarten) class.
So he decided to do something about it.

“Our daughter’s class went skating and her best friend could go because she didn’t have any skates. She was so upset about it,” added Yvonne Palmer-Wilson who is helping organize it with him. Their daughter Keira is in Grade 1 at the school.
“It’s a good idea to help them,” she added.

The couple noted while the board and especially the people from the French Canadian Centre have been extremely helpful with organizing the event, ticket sales are very slow and they need to know how many people will be coming so they  can arrange enough food for supper.

“If we sell all 300 tickets, we can raise $10,000,” Keith Wilson added, noting they want to do smiler events with even bigger names if this event is a success.

“We want to be able to buy little kid helmets and skates and soccer balls,” he said adding it will be up to the school to decide where the money will be best spent.

The evening begins at 5 p.m. with cocktails, a roast beef dinner at  6 p.m. followed by the entertainment at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $50.There are only 300 available.
