I wasn’t sure what to expect when Edmonton’s Tallest to Shortest featuring Sean Brewer and Mark Feduk played the Slice, on Saturday, Nov. 9.
But it was a lot of high energy, goofy fun as they played a solid show of big riffs and a touch of ’60 psychedelic acid rock. 
And even better, for the metal-heads in the audience, Brewer and Steve Hutcheson played some sweet harmonized guitar solos, which you don’t hear very often.
But they also threw a whole bunch of different influences into the pot. Brewer was even rapping for a song called “Rich People.”
Their music ranged from the strange to more balls out rockers. Drummer Corey Motz beat the hell out of his drum kit. During one song near the end of the set, he hit the skins so hard he shattered his drum stick and sent half of it spinning through the air 10 feet to land in front of the stage inches from where I was standing.
Local modern rock act the Dirti Speshuls opened the show with a hot set of tight indie rock/ pop rock along the lines of Sloan and Treble Charger mixed with heavier ’90s music like Monster Magnet.
They had trimmed down to two guitarist, but Rob Cooper and John Vornbrock held it together trading solos and riffs and singing harmony vocals with lead singer Todd Carter.
Dean Wilson kept a rock solid beat and bassist Rick Beres held the groove together on a set of original songs that were ridiculously catchy.
