Brenna Lowrie and New Weather Machine provide alternative to jazz festival

 The Slice had an alternative to jazz music, June 13 as the Brenna Lowrie band and  the New Weather Machine made a long  Brenna Lowrie gets ready to play her set. Photo by Richard Ameryawaited return to stage to play innovative progressive rock for about 40 people.

I hadn’t heard the rejigged Brenna Lowrie band for a while, but they complemented Lowrie’s, sweet, unique voice and showed a heavier sound in addition to  their slower, more ambient sound.


 The New Weather Machine showed off keyboardist Jesse Plessis on a hot version of Deep Purple’s “Highway Star,” which sounded like David Bowie was singing it, thanks to frontman/ lead guitarist Jon Martin's voice.Jon Martin of the New Weather Machine. Photo by Richard Amery


 He showed off some prodigious guitar talent on his originals, playing complicated solos while singing pleasantly, channeling David Bowie especially on their cover of  Queen/ David Bowie's “Under Pressure.”


He had a heap of energy as the band, including bassist Jason Schultchen, guitarist Jason Oakes and drummer Clayton Smith, built the foundation for Martin to create upon.
