Great week to bang your head

E-mail Print PDF

This is a great week if you want to rock and roll, bang your head or rap.
The big event of the week is the return of Snapbacks and Throwbacks at the Slice. It is a good way to remember beloved concert promoter and hip hop scene supporter DJ Booda James Nishima who passed away last year.

The Aug. 29 event features Calgary rapper Transit and DJ Jonny Williams.

The other performers include fellow Calgary rappers Auston Wentz aka Jam, The Blue and Southern Alberta rappers Aerosubtle, Kyle Pyke and Pat Clifton and Mike Chek. Millz Skills is spinning the beats.
It is a great week for metal.
The Deaner of the cult classic FUBAR movies will return to Lethbridge to rock Scores, Aug. 28 with his band Nightseeker who have put on memorable Lethbridge shows.

Every metal band and his dog will be at the Vent in Coaldale, Aug. 28-29. Performers include Victoria punk stalwarts the Dayglo Abortions plus Reverend Kill, Throne of Vengeance and plenty of local metal acts.

On Friday, Throne of Vengeance shares the stage with the Golers, Putrescence, Ogroem, Death Toll Rising, Without Mercy, Tramp Stamper, Naraka, Dethgod, Space Wolves and Trancide.
The Dayglo Abortions headline Aug. 30. Also on the bill are Bitchsplitter, Reverend Kill, Parapsychotic, Kryosphere, Ides of Winter, Mass Control, Martial Law, Morbidly Depraved, Netheriel, Death Pledge and Ares Infernus.

Tickets for each day cost $30. They will even be offering shuttle service to and from Lethbridge at $10 per ride.

The Space Wolves have a busy couple of days opening for the Deaner and Nightseeker as well as playing Lethbridge Dethfest this weekend.
There is a lot more rock and roll with The Kestrals, local garage rock band the Yeah Dads and Internet love playing the Slice, Aug. 27.

The Owl Acoustic Lounge is also rocking this week with Tom Holliston of Nomeansno playing with special guest Jon Vornbrock, Aug. 28.
Calgary's Lori Kole will be playing country music at Casino Lethbridge, Aug. 28 and Aug. 29.

The Owl goes country with Rusty Water and the Broken Troubadours, Aug. 29. In a similar vein, Golden roots duo Broken Down Suitcase return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge on Wednesday, Aug. 27. To accommodate that show, the Owl moved their end of month comedy open mic to Monday, Aug. 25.
But if you want to laugh, the Drama Nutz return to Club Didi on Wednesday, Aug. 27 to perform their Uncensored improv. Inferno also has their comedy open mic on  Thursday, Aug. 28.
