I only caught the end of hit Calgary jazz quartet The Johnny Summers Quartet embarking on a massive jazz jam on country classic “Folsom Prison Blues,” Jan. 24 at the Slice.
Johnny Summers played some hot trumpet throughout the set.
Pianist Egor Ukoloff almost stole the show with innovative, upbeat boogie woogie. Bassist Kodi Hutchinson played in the pocket with drummer Karl Schwonik .
Everybody got to solo including Summers and each one drew applause from the enraptured audience.
