Language Arts are getting their fans involved with their next album.
The Toronto based band blend the classical guitar stylings and ethereal voice of lead singer Kristen Cudmore with the jazz influences of band mates drummer Neil McIntosh, keyboardist/ Accordionist Joel Visenrin and bassist Soren Nissen though Joe Ernwein played bass on their last album “Wonderkind,” which was released April 1 , 2014.
They return to the Slice, March 21 for the first time since 2009.
They recorded the CD with Grammy nominated producer Darryl Neudorf who has also worked with Neko Case and Sarah McLachlan.
“ He was really amazing to work with. He has a way of always making us do better for the benefit of the songs. It was a really fun experience,” she said adding he helped the band mould their ideas.
“ Darryl is also a drummer, so he worked a lot with our drummer Neil,” she said.
He will also be acting in advisory role with Language Arts’ new CD.
“Neil will produce the next one and Darryl will be there as a third party,” she said.
They are recording while on tour.
“The next CD is going to be a big change. We’re recording at 17 venues and getting audiences to sing on the new single (’With Me’),” she said adding the new music is more pop influenced.
“The new material is different. It’s still Language Arts, but Language Arts developing,” she described.
“It’s more of a group effort. It’s pop music , but artfully done. It’s not going to be Top 40 pop,” she said adding when the CD will be completed depends on Neudorf’s schedule.
Language Arts play the Slice, Saturday, March 21.
There is $10 cover for the show.
