Spencer Jo shows the acoustic side of punk

E-mail Print PDF

Calgary acoustic-punk Spencer Jo played an entertaining show at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Aug. 15 for a decent sized, though not overwhelming crowd.

While I missed his first set, he promised  his second set would be “more yelly” and was true to his word.Spencer Jo playing a solo show at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Aug 15. Photo by Richard Amery
He blazed through a variety of Celtic punk acoustic based songs ranging from brand new to from his first CD in 2004.“ Riverboat ”was an immediate Celtic tinged highlight.

He played upbeat acoustic music with unusual lyrics and then wen all the way back to the 1700s “ for the oldest song I know,” as he played a pretty shanty.

Another highlight was  one of his older sings “ I’m Going Home” from his first CD, 10 years ago.
