“ We’ve been taking most of the year off to write new material,” said drummer Maya Miller/ who along with lead vocalist Becky Black return to Lethbridge to play the Slice, Oct. 16 with Cosmic Charley.

“The Lethbridge show is  one of our rare road trips this year,” she said, noting they play Medicine Hat and Rossland, B.C. the same weekend.

“We’ve been playing more places closer to home,” she said adding they are taking a well deserved breather after a busy 2014 which included a tour with Alice In Chains, which was the last time the Vancouver based blues rock/ punk/ alternative rock duo stopped by Lethbridge to play the Enmax Centre.

“Last year we opened for Alice In Chains, which was great. It was our first arena show and then we toured with the Tokyo Police Club. So after last year, we thought it would be a good time to take a year to write new material,” she said.

She said adjusting to the bigger stage wasn’t  a problem for the duo.
“We were playing first for people who were there to see Alice In Chains.  But it wasn’t that much of a transition, she continued.

“It was amazing.”
She is excited about the new material.

“A lot of new material is in more of a psych-rock  direction. And some of the blues is coming back and I don’t now how that happened. We just write to what is happening and what we’re feeling at the time,” she said, adding the new songs are making their way into their show including bigger performances, like the Beaus festival in Ottawa, Oct. 2 which also features the Dears, Yukon Blonde and comedian Tom Green.

“It’s nice to have new material to play,” she said, noting the recording is completed.
“ We’ll probably release it next spring. We’re just figuring out the album song order. We’re definitely ready to follow up,” she continued.

They plan to continue playing as a duo.
“It seems to work for us. It's definitely a case of if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” Miller said.
“We’re still figuring out that there's still a lot more we can do as a duo,” she said.
She hopes people, will come out.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun, a little frenetic and very loud. So I hope people come out because the last time were in Lethbridge, we were opening for Alice in Chains,” she enthused.

The show begins at 9:30 p.m. with local funk rock trio Cosmic Charley. There is a $10 cover for the show.
