Though they grew up together, The  duo started playing together after Madeline’s brother Lucas heard her playing some songs she wrote.
“We started playing together by accident. I was playing songs around our home and didn’t think anybody was listening, then all of the sudden my brother poked his head  around the corner and asked  whose songs I was playing. When I told  him they were mine, he asked me to teach them to him. Then he brought a whole bunch of songs he’d been writing,” said Madeline Roger, from her Winnipeg home, noting they got their first gig playing together a couple of weeks later.

That went so well that it lead to others.
“And fans started coming up to us and asking if we had an album. So we made one,” she continued.
Choosing their dad, Lloyd Peterson to produce it was a natural decision. NHe has worked with talented artists like The Crash Test Dummies, Cara Luft, the Wyrd Sisters, Luke Doucet, James Keelaghan and Los Lobos.

“It was natural. We both grew up listening to the same music— his music. But we found we agreed too much, so we brought in John Whynot because we wanted an extra set of ears. And we really liked his approach in his work with Kathleen Edwards,” she added, noting Whynot has worked with a lot of talented Canadian musicians including Lindi Ortega.

They are looking forward to playing Lethbridge for the first time.
“It will be our first time there.  It will just be the two of us playing acoustic guitars that actually my brother built,” she said.
“ We’ll be playing all originals  and no covers. Unless it’s a John Prine song,” she said.

They released their new CD on Jan. 17 at a CD release party at Winnipeg’s West End Cultural Centre , then  tour around Saskatchewan before coming to Alberta. this will be  their first big tour together, though they did a quick tour out to Northern Ontario before.

“We took the train, VIA Rail has a program for performers where you play for a a couple of time in  exchange for your passage,” she said adding the duo are very pleased with  how their debut CD turned out.
“Every time I listen to it, I find something else that I love about it. We had  a Winnipeg all-star band playing on it and what they did  on it was just amazing,” she enthused praising   bassist Julian Bradford, drummer Damon Mitchell , organist Alex Campbell and their dad Lloyd Peterson on electric guitar for their work on the CD.
