Eclectic folk and acoustic music this week

A week of eclectic acoustic music begins on Feb. 2 with Vancouver rockers 54 40 playing an unplugged acoustic show at the Southminster United Church for the Geomatic Attic. The show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $42.50. And, also hailing from Vancouver, punk klezmer accordionist Geoff Berner brings his band to the Slice on Feb. 5 in support of his new CD “ We Came To Breman to be Musicians.”

If you like country music, the Lethbridge Folk Club has an excellent show this week as they bring Red Deer based roots/ folk/ country band Ol’ Boots and the Hoots back to Lethbridge to play the Lethbridge College Cave, Feb. 6 Tickets are $25 members and $30 for invited guests. They released their latest CD  last year called “ Too Hot To Hoot.” Local duo Burning Bridges including Steve Foord and Megan Brown will be opening the show.
The Lethbridge Folk Club has also restarted their open mics.


 They will be at Casa on the second and fourth Fridays of the month from7:30 -9:30 p.m. as Casa closes at 10 p.m. They will be completely acoustic open mics.


The Owl Acoustic Lounge brings in Kitchener-Waterloo indie rock band Royal Streets, Feb. 3.
They Owl Acoustic Lounge goes punk Feb. 5 with Calgary punk band the Rumble plus local bands the Ruby Plumes and Divorce Court. The show is by donation. It will begin around 9 p.m.


 The Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra has their big annual Love Notes Fundraiser, Feb. 6 at Casa. So be like James Bond, don that tux and sip that martini shaken-not stirred. Tickets are $150 each. The event is almost sold out.


On the other hand, if you just want to laugh, Yuk Yuks Comedy hits Average Joes Feb. 5 with Vancouver comedian Ryan Paterson, Calgarian Derek Sweet and your host Randy Webb. The show begins at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 on the day of the show.
The Slice features Kelowna based folk rock/ alt folk  duo Tiger Moon on Feb. 6. they feature the talents of Kasey Graff and Dan Tait.
