I only caught the last set of cheerfully chipper easygoing ambient  Vancouver indie rock from Said the Whale at Studio, May 1.
They had a decent sized crowd of about 2Said the Whale playing studio,May 1. Photo by Richard Amery00, though not a sell out like most of the shows on their tour, who were enthusiastic nonetheless.

Their third set was comfortable, familiar sounding indie rock featuring plenty of ambient guitars, catchy keyboard hooks and later on, some perky ukulele.

Tyler Bancroft and Ben Worchester took turns singing lead vocals and switching between acoustic and electric guitars.

Substitute bassist and opening act David Vertesi stood mainly in the shadows, though emerged to sing the occasional vocal harmonies.

Keyboardist Jacelyn Brown  was enjoying herself, celebrating her birthday as her bandmates encouraged the audience to buy her  her favourite sugary drinks.

Drummer Spencer Schoening held down the beat on drums. A lot of the hit portion of the show feSaid the Whale experimenting with synth sounds. photo by Richard Ameryatured enjoyable green themed songs and tender love songs. They had people singing along to some of their better known tunes.

While the crowd chattered and cheered throughout the set, they quieted right down and were actually shushed for a beautiful show ending version of “ Curse The Current,” which had them happily singing along before they hit the road.
