Edmonton power trio Tallest to Shortest are returning to Lethbridge to rock the Slice, May 28 with Toques and Beards.
They are familiar faces in Lethbridge as bassist Mark Feduk and guitarist have played Lethbridge a lot in their other band the Uncas.
They are backed by drummer Corey Motz in both bands lately, though Feduk and Brewer trade instruments when playing as Red Ram.
“We’re playing lots of shows and crowds are getting better and better ,” said Feduk as rain thunders down on his car, while driving to Filthy McNasty’s, a venue he books shows at, through a thick curtain of smoke drifting down from Fort McMurray.
“It will be nice to get out of here and play some shows,” he said.
The trio have released a self-titled EP in Fall 2015 and are working an a new CD.
“We’ve been writing a lot and trying to raise money for it,” he said.
He noted the band combines a variety of influences into their songs ranging from surf to punk with a touch of funk and a lot of rock.
“ And I grew up listening to grunge,” he continued.
A little bit of funk come to the fore on “Potato Tomato.”
“ I’m not really a funk bass player, but I listen to a lot of soul and hip hop some some of that comes out. Even in the Uncas which are more of an old country band,” he continued.
He said they may pull out some Red Ram songs in Lethbridge.
“Some places us want us to play three sets, so we’ll play a Red Ram set then. But in Lethbridge, we’ll decide then. Sean plays guitar in Tallest to Shortest, and I play bass, but we’ll switch for Red Ram, ” he said, adding previous Lethbridge shows have included a Red Ram and A Tallest to Shortest set.
“Usually whoever plays guitar also sings. Though lately I’ve been singing a lot behind the bass.”
He always looks forward to playing Lethbridge, even when their show is competing with a couple other big ones including a Fort McMurray fundraiser at Honkers pub and Emerson Drive.
“ We hope people will come by after they’ve had a couple of beers because that’s the type of music we like to play,” he said.
