Hamilton based rockabilly musician Ginger St. James took a thin, but enthusiastic crowd at the Owl Acoustic Lounge back to the ’50s, May 28.
While I just missed her first set, I caught most of her second excellent set of rock and roll and rockabilly music.
She looked like she stepped right out of 1955 with bright lipstick, patterned dress and big beautiful smile as she strummed her guitar and sand. Lead guitarist Snowheel Slim and drummer Andre Tellier were locked in together. She held down the rhythm while Slim stood back and played tasteful solos.
I arrived in the middle of a hot version of Nancy Sinatra’s jazzy hit “Bang Bang.”
She played a lot of her latest CD “One For the Money” as well as older songs and a couple of new songs.
“Hair of the Black Dog,” was an immediate highlight.
I really enjoyed a sassy cover of Kacey Musgraves’ outlaw country style song, “ the Trailer Song.”
