Daryll Düus returning to Lethbridge among the week's highlights

Things are picking up in Lethbridge this week with a variety of shows leading up to Whoop-Up Days week, which features a cornucopia of different acts performing.Darryl Düus returns to play with Papa King this week. PHoto by Richard Amery


But before that, Vancouver musicians Petunia and the Vipers return to the Slice, Aug. 19.


 The band plays an eclectic mix of blues, jazz,rock and traditional country music.
 They just released their latest CD “ Dead Bird on the Highway.”
The Slice also hosts a big alternative rock show on Aug. 18 with with local punk/folk band the Bummer Club , the Postnamers plus Calgary pop rock band Manaray. There is a $10 cover for the show.
Daryll Düus returns home to play the blues with Papa King and the Boogie Machine at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Aug. 20.

Stavely born, Calgary based singer/ songwriter Mariya Stokes will be playing the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Aug. 19.


The Slice will be over the moon, Aug, 22 with Winnipeg space freaks Moon Tan, Swift Current indie rock band Moon Runner and local desert rock / groove fuelled band the The Rainbow Patrol. The show begins at 10:15 p.m. there is a $10 cover.


Also this weekend, the local classic rockers the Chevelles return to Coyote Joes, Aug. 19 to play the Class of ’86 reunion party.


Attainable Records features an excellent punk/ metal show Sunday Aug. 21 as Vancouver wildmen the Golers return to Lethbridge to play a big metal and punk show with local bands Chernoff and Extrados. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the bands beginning at 8 p.m. There is $10 cover.
 And Whoop up-Days dominates the following week beginning with  Jason Blaine performing  Aug. 23. Trevor Panczak will open the show. Admission is included with gate admission.
