The Geomatic Attic had a  sold out show full of attentive and appreciative people, Sept. 18 for  songwriter Chip Taylor and Austin based fiddle player Carrie Rodriguez.

An early highlight was “Leave this Town.”

Their voices perfectly complemented each other, which Taylor’s smooth baritone and Rodriguez’s haunting and ethereal voice. They were reminiscent of Fred Eaglesmith and Tif Ginn.

Another highlight was “ Red Dog Tracks,” a song Taylor said none other than Lou Reed told him was his favourite because of its honesty.

Mike Lentz provided  throbbing upright bass , keeping everything together and highlighting the voices and Rodriguez’s fantastic fiddle playing.
Shaye Zadravec opened the show with a succinct set of immediately appealing though somewhat melancholy roots and folk music including some covers from Karla Anderson and Shelby Lynn as well as her own songs.
