Halloween rocks this week

What better way to get into the spirit with a psychobilly show at the Moose Hall, Oct. 27 where Toronto based the Creepshow and Brutal Youth playing with special guests including local bands Quick Draw. Tickets are $15 in advance at Blueprint and $20 at the Door. The Creepshow are touring in support of their latest CD “Life After Death.”

  That is competing with a big rock show at Average Joes featuring Calgary drum and bass rockers High Kicks and Moncton’s own The Motorleague. Tickets for that show, which begins at 8:30 p.m., cost $10 in advance, $15 at the door on the day of the show.
Early Halloween shows begin on Oct. 28 with a special reunion show at Studio featuring several resurrected popular Lethbridge bands including local psychobilly trio the Phantom Creeps, country metal band the Chuck Norris All Stars, punk metal band Gender Bender and Misfits tribute band The MizFatz. The show begins at 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance from  Blueprint and Studio.


The Fish and Games Hut plays host to a strange show with folk and electronica band Foonyap, psych witch musician Hermitess aka Jennifer Crighton and local space rock band Unbroken Circle Ensemble. The cover is $5 or $10 depending on your budget. The show begins at 8:30 p.m.
But the best Halloween treat of the week is the official grand re-opening of popular live music venue the Slice, Oct. 29 with a Halloween bash featuring  JJ Thomas, The Supervoid, The Truth Messengers and the Dirti Speshuls. There is a five dollar cover for the show, which begins at 9 p.m.


 If that isn’t enough Halloween rock for you, the Headbanger‘s Society has a show at the Smokehouse, Oct. 30 featuring great local metal and hard rock bands Tyrants of Chaos, Caste of Shadows and Men of Nihilist. The show starts at 8 p.m. There is a $15.
In addition to alternative rock, Friday is a good night for country as well. Bluegrass band Rotary Park return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Oct. 28. There is no cover for the show.

 They bring in local country band the Dearly Departed on Oct. 29.
 And The Old Man River Band play Casino Lethbridge, Oct. 28 and 29.

 


If you want to rock in your Halloween a couple days early,  Outrun the Arrow and Supernautic will be tearing things up on Oct. 29.
 And the Chevelles play their annual Halloween party at Average Joes, Oct. 29 as well.


 In a similar vein, Who’s Yer Daddy rock the Ten TenPub with all your favourite hits, Oct. 29.
Get your blues on with Papa King and the Boogie Machine, who will be playing toe tapping music at 11 p.m. at Plum. There is no cover for that show.
 If you want to play, Frankie G of local blues band Driving While Blind hosts an open jam at Honker’s, Oct. 28.
 There are also a couple of more traditional Halloween parties on the weekend.
 Casa hosts Monster Mash 2 featuring a costume contest and the music of jazz pop band the Groove Apostles.
There is a family friendly Halloween party at Exhibition Park, Oct. 29. The Boo Bash runs 1-4 p.m. There will be games for children under 12 and plenty of Halloween fun to go round.


You can also put  put a little jazz in your life with the Lethbridge Community Silver band, who feature Groovy Ghoulies, Oct. 29 at the Sterndale Bennet theatre, where they will be playing a variety of spooky songs ranging from  From the groovy years of Austin Powers and Michael Jackson to the spooky Halls of the Mountain King. Halloween itself is fairly slow on Monday. Tickets are 415, and $2 for Children 12 and younger. There are concerts at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
 

The Owl celebrates Halloween, Oct. 31 with an open mic. But the big Halloween show features the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra playing Halloween themed music at the Southminster United Church. Performances include Paul Dukas The Sorcerer’s Apprentice; Modest Mussorgsky Night on Bald Mountain; Camille Saint-Saëns Danse Macabre ; Charles Gounod Funeral March of a Marionette; Hector Berlioz March to the Scaffold from Symphonie Fantastique; John Williams Selections from Harry Potter and Danny Elfman BeetleJuice Suite & Corpse Bride Suite . Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the concert range from $25-$75.
