CKXU celebrates Christmas with crazy carols

E-mail Print PDF

They pretty much sold out the Slice on a Saturday night, for the annual CKXU Christmas party, Dec. 9.

A  sexy Santa was on hand for photos and dancing, but Sexy Santa dance to A Trozzo and the LEctric Few at the CKXU Christmas party. Photo by Richard Amerythe main event was local music. I missed Cope, A Bummer Christmas and  the Santy Hose, but was just in time for the Shaela Miller’s set of traditional country versions of Christmas classics. As always Miller, drummer Tyler Bird, bassist Paul Holden and lead guitarist Evan Uschenko they played a tight set and Miller was her usual  engaging frontwoman.

Fox Eyes were up next to add a touch of grunge to Christmas with an impressive set of alternative rock. Some of their highlights were covers of  the Ramones’   “Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight Tonight),” a great gut busting cover of “Mr. Grinch”  and their own twist on Bruce Springsteen.

Not to be outdone, A Trozzo and the Electric Few put their own twangy twist on the ventures take on  Christmas Carols.

They seamlessly blended instrumental melodies of well roasted chestnuts like “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,” “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” and “Silver Bells”with popular ’60s hits from bands like the Beatles and the Ventures themselves.
