January 2017 opens with open mics, jazz jam and Lethbridge Shelter fundraiser

Slowly get back into the swing of things in 2017. Open mics open the new year at the Owl Acoustic Lounge and the Onion, Jan. 2. and don’t forget the open mic at the Slice on Thursday, Jan. 5.  The first jazz jam of the year takes place at the Owl Acoustic Lounge on Wednesday, Jan. 4 with HBO3 and Josh Davies. It is 9:30-11:30 p.m. and will run  on the first Wednesday of every month.

 The first ukule jam of the year is this week as well. Bring your uke a to Casa and play with othwer ukulele enthusiasts, Jan. 8.

The Joel Bryant Pete Watson duo return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Jan. 6.

The weekend  is all about the laughter. Yuk Yuks Comedy featuring  Derek Sweet, Ben Cannon and Dan Hymus is at Average Joes, 8:30 p.m.. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 on the day of the show. That same night, Gay’s Anatomy, the new season of the improvised soap opera Gammorah opens at Club Didi, Jan. 6 at 9 p.m.

 If you just want to dance, local R and B, funk/ disco band Hippodrome will get your booty shaking at the Slice, Jan. 6.


 Attainable Records hosts a fundraiser for  the Lethbridge Shelter, Jan. 6.  Bands playing include Fox Eyes and Chief Mountain. It will also be the last show for local punk trio Advertisement, Admission is a minimum five dollar donation. The music begins at 9 p.m.

 It is all about rock and roll on Jan. 7.

 Edmonton indie rock band Evergreen play  the Owl Acoustic Lounge, on Jan. 7 with local rock band Biloxi Parish. Down the road, Montreal punk trio  the Punk Explosion play the Slice with A. Trozzo and the Electric Few.

Early in the next week get loud at the Enmax Centre, Dec. 9 with Stomp which begins at 7:30 p.m.. Tickets are $59.50, $69.50 and $79.50.
