Supervoid and Fox Eyes rock out December

E-mail Print PDF

I always seem to miss local alternative rock trio the Supervoid, so I was glad to catch the end of their Dec. 30 set at the Owl Acoustic Lounge.

I arrived in time to hear a cool revamped version of the Cure’s  “Just Like Heaven,” which had a scrappy garage rock feel.

The trio including frontman Jon Vornbrock, drummer Dean Wilson and bassist Christian Nelson ended a tight set with a couple of their own songs including “Take My Life.” As always, they wore their ’90s alternative rock influence (Foo Fighters and Smashing Pumpkins) on their sleeves.

The band including guitarist/ vocalist Fox Mandy,  bassist Nick Iron Shirt , lead guitarist Tico Ironshirt  and drummer Bill also had a strong ’90s influence along the lines of bands like Hole and L7 with a touch of Joan Jett.

They were playing a few newer songs, as always punctuated by Fox Mandy’s piercing shrieks.

A decent sized crowd was on hand for the show, which began with JJ Thomas, who I unfortunately missed.
