“It’s been pretty crazy. I quit my job four years ago and recorded three full length albums in three years to show people I’m serious,” said Maloney, who returns to the Owl Acoustic Lounge this week , Aug. 12, as part of a quick Southern Alberta tour, which includes a stop at the Twin Butte General store, the night before on Aug. 11.

“I think I’ll slow down now and  focus on releasing singles and videos,” Maloney continued, noting he is still touring in support of his third CD “RIGHTHERE.”

“ I won”t say I’m not happy with the albums. But I had to record them  quickly with very little money. I have a buddy who works in a studio in London, So I get a back door, buddy deal,” he said.
“But this way I can save up and take my time,” he said, adding he always enjoys playing Lethbridge.

“ I must have played the Owl Acoustic Lounge six or seven times,” he observed, adding  Lethbridge audiences are very supportive of his music.

Lately he has been drawing  a lot of  inspiration from taking advantage of Kijiji Ride share programs instead of driving cross country or being part of the VIA Rail performing artist program.

“I’m taking a damn plane this time.  I’m flying into Edmonton and renting a car and a guitar. I’m not driving across the country again,” he said, adding he is enjoying meeting lot of interesting people with ride share programs, so he will be calling his new album “Ride Share.”

“It’s great. I don’t have to sing about myself anymore. I can sing about these people because I listen to them talk. And they’ll really spill the beans,” he said, noting one memorable ride came from  a Saskatoon to Winnipeg trip.
“The guy just got of of jail and was going to B.C. because he had a child while he was in jail. The song will be called ‘Ride to her,’ he said, adding he will be playing a couple of new songs including that one as well as songs from “RIGHTHERE’ and his other albums.

“ I’m sold out of the albums, but I’m selling digital download cards with ‘Repotting’ and ‘RIGHTHERE’ on them,’” he said.
Pat Maloney plays the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Aug. 12 at 9 .m. Admission is by donation.
