The popular non-binary artist is touring in support of a new ninth album “ Bodies of Water” featuring the new single “Do Whatever The Heck You Want.”
The new album will officially be released on Sept. 7.
“We’ve released two singles so far including ‘Bioluminiescent,” said Spoon from home in Victoria.
Spoon is touring with Saskatoon based non-binary electronic artist Respectfulchild aka Gan and the Ground Sloth Orchestra at the Lethbridge show.
“Respectfulchild is coming to play keyboards and I’ll be playing some electric guitar,” Spoon added.
The new CD is more electronica influences, growing from Spoon’s folk roots.
“The new album is interesting. There’s definitely more keyboards. ‘Do What Ever the Heck You Want,’ actually started as a punk song, but it changed as I was playing to more folk audiences,” Spoon said.

“It is a lot more electronic music,” Spoon said.
“I grew up in Alberta, so I’m excited to return,” Spoon added, noting identifying as a non-binary person  has inspired Spoon’s lyrics on the new CD which were inspired by living on the west coast next to the ocean.
“I wrote a lot about water and also bodies,’” Spoon said adding being a non-binary person has also influenced the music.
“ There is more awareness of it now,” Spoon said.
