Thunder Bay based folk/ bluesman Billy Manzik returned to the Slice, April 15 to introduce people to some of the music from his latest CD ‘All Together Now’. He beamed ear to ear as he played a few originals and some unusual arrangements of covers for approximately 30 people.
He borrowed a couple of musicians who usually play with Dave McCann and the Firehearts. Wicked pedal steel player Charlie Hase, who looked like he couldn’t have been happier anywhere else and drummer Tim Williams completely rocked it country style.
Bassist Spider Bishop held down the bottom end and kept the beat going.
Hase was impressive, playing intricate pedal steel lines, digging every note while tugging at the heartstrings.
They were tight and beamed ear to ear throughout the set which included a couple highlights from Manzik’s latest Cd ’All Together Now’ plus some countrified arrangements of Fleetwood Mac’ s ‘Say That You Love Me’ and Neil Young’s ‘Helpless.’ The wild slide guitar and pedal steel brought back memories of Junior Gone Wild.
It was an excellent show.
