Library Voices play upbeat pop music

E-mail Print PDF

If you are going to listen to pop music, it should be of the kind played by Regina’s Library Voices, who would likely be kicked out of the library for being way too loud.Library Voices put on an exciting show, April 20. Photo by Richard Amery
But their April 20 show at Henotic was the good kind of loud. They had three keyboardists, a drummer, a manic bassist, two guitarists and a saxophonist/ trumpeter, who  played catchy pop music just about perfectly. They had magnificent , multi-voiced vocal harmonies and spared no energy.

The bassist was leaping off the drum kit and the keyboardist on the floor in front of the stage had his head down, and was in the groove.
The musicians all played well off of each other, each knowing their parts and when to play them.
They had the enthusiastic audience up and dancing and in places singing along. I particularly enjoyed their song ‘Party Like it’s 2012.’

Another drummer joined them on stage for a number, which helpedraw a n exuberant set to a close just before midnight.

The Living Luca’s Bridgette Yarwood and Ivan Reina. Photo by Richard AmeryI also enjoyed local hard rock band the Living Luca, who were a late addition to the bill. They played an energetic set of detuned rock, which got  people in the mood.
The Living Luca will also be playing a special all ages gig being put on by  Elephant Sound and Lighting  in the vacant  VHQ building next to Bo Diddley’s, April 30 with the Necessities, Matt Robinson, Jesse Northey and the Dandelions and DJ Extraordinaire) aka Dalin Disko Jones. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. They are available in advance from Blueprint Music.
Doors open at 8 p.m.
