As usual, there is a lot happening in Lethbridge this week.
To start with, Keith Catfish Woodrow is back from Mexico and excited to host the March Slice of Blues jam at the Slice, March 10.
The next night at the Slice, March 11, revamped Calgary roots band Red Hot Hayseeds return to play the March edition of the Windy City Opry. Tyler Allen has assembled almost an entirely new line up for the show.
If you want to see something really special, Celtic Illusion comes to the Enmax Centre, March 11. The show features live music, Celtic dancing, Illusion and much more. Tickets range from $63.50-$84.50. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.
The Geomatic Attic goes blues this week with Juno award winning, Quebec born, Austin, Texas based bluesman Ray Bonneville performing at the Geomatic Attic, March 12. Tickets are $25 for members, $40 for non members. The show starts at 8 p.m. sharp.
As usual there are a lot of open mics throughout the week. Devin Gergel hosts the Beaches open mic oN Wednesday. Penelope Rose hosts the Slice’s Thursday open mic this week. The Lethbridge Folk Club’s open mic, on the second Friday of every month is this Friday at 7 p.m. at casa. There is a five dollar suggested donation to cover room rental to attend.
Kelly Klimchuk returns to host Honker’s Friday open mic.
It will be a fun Friday the 13th.
Alberta Music’s 35th anniversary tour features local country musician Trevor Panczak, Edmonton’s Fort Saskatchewan born musician Joe Nolan and Calgary country musician Amy Nelson playing a special ticketed event at the Owl Acoustic Lounge.
Admission is $10 for the show, which begins at 8 p.m.
Local indie rock musician Fawns ,Calgary’s Bretton lee John and Cold Water play the Slice, March 13. Admission is $10.
The Bamboo Guppies rock Casino Lethbridge this weekend March 13 and 14. And if you want to laugh, Brian Dawydiuk and Cole Howg battle for roast king at Good Times, march 13. Vancouver comedian Chris Griffin will be telling the jokes, Saturday
There are some cool shows out of town too. Lethbridge based rock/pop/country band Lawless Murphy (Vocalist Cameron Clark, bassist Alex Thompson, guitarist Kevin Vezina and drummer Ryan Ebbinghoff) will be playing McLennans in Coaldale, March 13.
Stage Fright: The Def Leppard Experience rock the Taber Oilman’s Club ’80s style beginning at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance.
The Owl Acoustic lounge has a special Saturday scheduled.
Karen, Lewis and pam ( Gabe Thaine, Ashley Thomson and Jillian Bracken) will be singing children’s hits of the likes of Raffi Fred Penner and of course Sharon , Lewis and Bram. They will be on stage at 3 p.m.
That evening, Rae Spoon returns to the Owl Acoustic Lounge stage with Kim Barlow and Mohammed Sahraei. Admission is by donation.
Get the blues with local blues band Zojo Black on March 14.
University of Lethbridge community radio station CKXU is psyched about their “It’s Alive” themed Fundrive 2020, which kicks off at the Boys and Girls Club, with The Rise of the Pastry, cupcake and live music extravaganza from 2-7 p.m. This year’s goal is to raise money for a new computer system that will allow podcasting of your favourite programs.
For something a little different, check out Divas Opera: a Night at the opera at Casa, March 14 at 7:30 p.m,
Mezzo soprano Barbara King and soprano Morrison promise plenty of your favourite opera numbers, costume changes and stories. Bente Hansen will be accompanying them and The Little Lethbridge Opera Company will also be performing. Tickets are $24 regular, $18 for students and seniors.
They will get you warmed up for the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra concert 5— Striking Rhythms, Monday, March 16 at the Southminster United Church. The concert features special guests Adam Mason on marimba playing with the orchestra. Selections include Brahms’ Variation on a Theme of Haydn, Abe‘s Prism Rhapsody for marimba and Orchestra and Mozart’s Symphony No. 38.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $25-$75.
Decendents of Lir aka Sheena Lawson, Dale Ketcheson, Lori Williams Freeman, will be playing Celtic music for the Bavura Brunch at the old Firehall beginning at 10:30 a.m., Sunday March 15
It is a nice lead in for St. Patrick’s Day week.
Vancouver Celtic punks The Real McKenzies play their semi-annual pre-St. Patrick’s Day party, March 16. They were last here in March 2018. They will be joined by Edmonton’s Real Sickies, Calgary’s the Ringwalds, Winnipeg’s Screaming in Traffic and Bob Scallywag. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. The show begins at 8 .m.
There is a lot of fun planned for St. Patrick’s Day. on Tuesday.
The Junkman’s Quire return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge. the Slice has a special St. Patrick]s Day show with Gabe Thaine’s High Level Variety Show, which will feature local songwriters, juggling and much more.
Uncovered featuring Breanne Urban return to Pop’s Pub South for a special St. Patrick’s day show.
And The Lethbridge Firefighters Pipe and drums will be playing on and off throughout the day at Average Joes beginning at 3:30 p.m. and again at 8:30 p.m.
And if you are in the mood to rock, the Glorious Sons, who usually play Average Joes, bring their War on Everything tour to the Enmax Centre, March 17 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $55-$59
