A good sized crowd of approximately 100 packed into the Lethbridge Legion to support local singer Shawni Shimbashi who was releasing her new EP.
She had several strong acoustic opening acts beginning with Angel Doucette, who played and sing heartfelt original folk and pop music.
Christian rock band Phao’s Mike and Kevin Gnandt performed a solo acoustic set of several of the band’s songs from their new CD and played to the crowd in between showing superb vocals and harmonies.
Their lyrics were unabashedly Christian themed rock and pop, which worked well being performed as an acoustic duo.
What was interesting was seeing local pop singer Kelliane’s band play acoustically for the first time.
They incorporated a cello, keyboards, 12 string guitar and djembe into a set including highlights from most of their new CD ‘Say It,’ which showcased Kelliane’s gorgeous voice and made her sound like an acoustic Pat Benetar in her leather pants. She grinned ear to ear through a set of fairly angry songs from her CD.
Shawni Shimbashi was the main event closing off the night as Phao band members joined her on stage and helped play an array of laid back, mid-tempo R and B styled covers including an unusual arrangement of Paula Abdul’s ’80s hit ‘Straight Up.’
In the same vein she also performed several of her originals, which were also in the mid tempo pop vein.
