Dave McCann entertains Upside Downtown with songs and stories

The Upside Downtown concert series has made Casa a nice after work destination on Thursdays.

It‘s always a pleasure to see Dave McCann performing. It’s been a while since I’ve seen him, but only caught his second set, Aug. 12. A good sized crowd  sat enjoying the music in the shade of casa.

He played a solo set of several old favourites, some obscure covers, and, as always, had plenty of great new stories to tell. As usual, his set was reminiscent of troubadours like Todd Snider mixed with a bit of Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy.

Hearing him play an acoustic version of my absolute favourite Dave McCann and the Firehearts  song “Fireheart,” made my afternoon.

McCann has spent a lot of time reading history and listening to classic troubadours like Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan, which inspired a new story and a fantastic new song called “Pascagoula River.”

As usual, he played a heartfelt, earnest set of folk infused rock and roll.

Biloxi Parish are set to play Upside Downtown this Thursday, Aug. 19 in rotary square, though the show will be moved inside to the Casa Community room in case of rain.
