Galt Saturdays start for fall

The Galt Museum & Archives' weekly Saturdays at 1:00 program for families with, children of all ages resumes in October with great activities highlighting the exhibits and collections.
“To be sure, we've built in educational components too, but shhh... don't mention it to your kids,” said Leslie Hall, Community Program Coordinator at the Galt Museum.

The Oct.  2 - Dec. 11 schedule is as follows:

Oct. 2:  Old Time First Aid with a Modern Twist Surgery on a pool table?  Mustard plasters for a common cold?  Come learn about what medicine was like in early Lethbridge and some modern first aid techniques with First Aid Instructor Pauline Johnston.
Oct. 9: Paper Plane Races Explore local aviation history with our special treasure hunt and learn to fold paper airplanes built for speed, distance, and fancy tricks.  Compete to win a prize.
Oct. 16:  History Detectives Become a history detective and search for clues in the Galt Hospital building and exhibit. Win a prize!
Oct. 23:  Photo paper X-rays X-ray common objects using light-sensitive photo paper and make a piece of x-ray art.  
Oct. 30: Strange & Funny Alberta Ghost Stories True and not so true stories with puppets, costumes and lots of audience participation.

Nov. 6: Plaster Casts of Kid's Hands Learn how to make a mould of your hand and then a plaster cast to preserve a piece of your own history.  
Nov. 13: Sight Insight Try your hand at different games and other activities from CNIB as you experience simulated vision impairment such as blindness, cataracts, and tunnel vision.  
Nov. 20: Photo Bingo Make your own bingo card using photos from Galt Hospital History, play the game, and win a prize.  
Nov. 27: Create your own superhero Try your hand at storytelling through cartooning as you learn how to create your own cartoon or comic book.


Dec. 4: Holiday Pop-Up Cards Use archival photos and scrapbooking techniques to make a greeting card.  
Dec. 11: Multi-Cultural Holiday Ornaments Learn about how different cultures celebrate their winter holidays while making traditional ornaments from around the world. Also make potato stamped wrapping paper to wrap your gifts this winter.
The program is offered Saturdays from 1 - 2 p.m.; registration is not required.
Admission includes exhibit access and refreshments, and is free for annual pass holders and children 6 and under. Rates are $3 per week for youth 7 and up, $5 for adults. The family rate is $12.  Annual family passes are available at the Museum Store for $25.
