Songs For Ken
Thu, Sep 26
Empress Theatre - Fort Macleod

Time: 7:30 p.m

Fort Macleod, AB (Sept. 9, 2019) Alberta singer-songwriter John Wort Hannam and his musical friends T. Buckley, Emily Triggs, Mike Stack and Jesse Dollimont are gathering at Fort Macleod's Empress Theatre on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. to raise funds for the ALS Society of Alberta.

Songs4Ken is a concert in memory of John’s lifelong friend Ken Rouleau, who died at age 44 from ALS, a neurodegenerative disease, in 2012 after a 13-month illness. Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the ALS Society of Alberta.

John and Ken met as eight-year-olds in Calgary. “Ken had a lust for life and plans to accomplish many things in his lifetime,” says John. “When he told me he wouldn’t be seeing his son grow up, I heard the sadness and pain in his voice. I wanted to--had to--do something. So Songs4Ken was born.

In the past five years, Songs4Ken has raised more than $30,000 for the ALS Society of Alberta.
This year’s performers will be backed by one of the best house bands in Alberta - Jason Valleau on bass,

Scott Duncan on fiddle, Jon May on drums and Steve Fletcher on keys.

In addition to the musical artistry, Rosebud, AB visual artist Randall Wiebe will paint a 15-minute portrait of one lucky audience member. Tickets for the portrait session will be sold at the event.

About the artists

John Wort Hannam

In 2001, Wort Hannam quit his teaching job and spent 10 months depleting his savings while he sat at his kitchen table, wearing a lucky hat, writing his first ten songs. Eighteen years later, with a few feathers in that lucky hat that include a JUNO nomination and a Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Album of
the Year, he’s touring a new band and new songs.

T. Buckley

Roots artist T. Buckley’s latest album, Miles We Put Behind, delivers “timeless, flowing melodies with a little grit on the edge that taps into a pure vein of country soul.In addition to his five albums, Buckley

has topped radio charts, sold out shows across Western Canada, and held down a successful four-year weekly residency at one of Calgary’s best live music venues.

Emily Triggs

A bred-in-the-bones roots musician, Triggs is a guitarist and singer-songwriter whose music also encompasses country, blues and some good, old rock ‘n’ roll. Her sound is classic and contemporary in equal measure. Triggs plays in a variety of bands, including the popular quartet Magnolia Buckskin and a duo called The Rosellas.

Mike Stack

Stack offers up a hefty dose of energetic alt-country, bluesy rock n' roll and Tex-Mex melodies sung with honeyed harmonies and rural twang.

Jesse Dollimont

Dollimont’s sound is steeped in folk, country, classical and bluegrass traditions while her songwriting style is a mixture of vivid imagery and nostalgia coupled with beautiful, relatable and, at times, heartbreakingly personal revelations.

Randall Wiebe

Wiebe is a veteran instructor in art, photography and drama and a freelance graphic designer and photographer. His own work focuses on figurative and portrait paintings and large-scale commissions for churches.

Songs4Ken tickets are $25 and available at or by calling 403-553-4404 (toll-free at 1-800-540-9229).
